SARSANGHACHALAK-AND CONTRIBUTIONS
RSS :- A New Era.
Posted: 27 Aug 2009 11:22 AM PDT
Every RSS chief (Sarsanghachalak) has his own different level of contribution to RSS and sangh parivar. So, New chief means start of a new era for RSS.
Whenever RSS name crops up, different sets of people, with different opinions come forward. Whether one likes it or not, every socially active and responsible person is connected to RSS or Sangh Parivar (whether he loves or hates RSS). .
1) RSS Swayamsevak (Cadre or Volunteer ):- This group of people always stand with RSS in any situation. Volunteers spread sangh to every corner of the world and to newer heights of service and sacrifice. Swayamsevak is neither a bounded cadre nor a blind follower. He is a socially aware and responsible citizen. Their dedication is with the nation and not even with sangh. Thus, this group became one of the most prominent influencing force in the society.
2) Neutral Citizens:- This group is socially active and consider him or herself responsible to society. They try to segregate the good and bad forces that influence to society. This group is in majority and always tries to stand on positive side of the society.
3) Basher or Critic: - This group is vocal but divided into two sub groups.
a) Talented and Good observer: - This type of critics are like a boon to any organization or person. They speak bitter truth as feed back. The bitter Feed back which is required for growth of an organization. They can be termed as positive critics.
b) Blind Bashers:- This group has their own perception of things. They don’t want to stand up for the truth nor with some thing good. They use freedom of speech in criticizing others or pulling the rug under their feet. This group can be termed as negative critics.
By the grace of god, RSS comes across many people of all three groups.
Now questions arise:-
Why is RSS so important to the society, nation or even world?
Why should I know more about RSS?
What should I do to take a clear stand about RSS?
RSS, in terms of pure numbers 40 lakh + active members, 50000+ shakha , 1.5lakh + social service projects, influence many top organizations of every field. The full time volunteers include doctors, engineers and many such highly educated. You can understand by numbers that no one can be out of the influence of RSS.
Coming to ideology, RSS is known for Hindu ethos like Vasudhaika Kutumbakam (all world is one family). RSS puts up a strong fight against all divisive forces in Hindu society like untouchability, dowry, sati etc. RSS stands for one powerful nation.
In respect of practical implementation, RSS follows the dictum “Untouchablity is a sin”. RSS helped governments in wars. It even worked with Catholic Christian organizations keeping the social welfare paramount.
So no one can ignore RSS. RSS and swayamsevaks will influence society immensely. So it is important to keep a close watch on growth and path of such an important organization. Growth and contribution of such a huge and influential organization in positive direction is the need of the society.
Change of Era: - In past RSS had a view that rather than reaching people in mass, communicate with people through small shakha programs or through sawayamsevak. One reason was influence of Blind Bashers on media and negative criticism by some section of people. As a consequence, RSS was labeled “Secretive Organization” among neutral people or positive critics. This label never hampered work growth or volunteer force but it confused the independent viewer's mind.
However, new era has come up with new policies. Current RSS chief (sarsanghachalak) P.P. Mohanrao Ji Bhagawat started putting in youthful energy to communicate with all types of people. RSS is known for bottom up approach, where ground cadre work first and then leaders make statements. But with changing societal dynamics, where media has a lot influence on the society; RSS also customized its interactions. For internal matters of Sangh bottom up approach continues. For external matters, top leadership adopts top to down approach by projecting the ideas to socially aware and active people through media or public meetings.
Change of era can be seen by programs listed below.
1) New RSS chief given a series of interviews to media houses for putting RSS view on many issues in front of the public.
2) New RSS chief is going to address public rallies and cadre meetings in about 40 places till February, 2010. ( This is a regular visit of RSS chief to all pranths )
3) Mumbai will see a mass gathering of RSS cadre and general public on 20th September '09. Here RSS chief will speak on all relevant issues and sangh approach. This meet is taking place after a successful one in Chennai.
4) Every meeting is followed by press conference and interactive gatherings of prominent people of society.
5) RSS is making every information of sangh work available in video or text format on its website (rssonnet.org) or encouraging the independent initiatives of its members ex:- www.Youtube.com/RSSOwner.
So, if you are in Mumbai , it is a golden opportunity on 20th September '09 to know more about sangh. If you are Swayamsevak, then it is a direct massage. If you are neutral and want to take a stand then it is a golden opportunity to know what is RSS from RSS chief himself. If you are a positive or negative critic, then also this is a golden opportunity to know the direction of RSS for the future.

RAKSHA BANDHAN -THE POWER OF UNITY
Posted: 03 Aug 2009 02:25 PM PDT
''On the day of rakhi purnima traditionally brother reaffirms his duty towards the sister whereas we at RSS, pledge to unite whole society in the thread of love. Rakshabandhan is an occasion to remind ourselves for our duty towards the weaker sections of the society. As a thread is keeping all flowers together in garland, the thread of Hindutva is uniting all Indian-ness in us. Unless we take care of the thread, flowers of all varieties cannot remain together. Let's nourish this long neglected thread by actively participating in social work of our choice. We as a individual cannot survive and grow without healthy society and it is our collective responsibility to work towards its betterment.''

RAMAYANA IN TODAYS WORLD
Ramayana- still relevant in today’s society
Posted: 03 Aug 2009 01:51 AM PDT
Preparations for Ramleela are on. Dussehra is just a few months away. As usual effigies of the demons shall be consigned to flames. Thousands of people around the country especially in north India gather at corner- stage- shows to watch Ram Leela – story of Ramayana during Navratras ten days prior to Dussehra - enacted by stage artists since ages- year after year. New serials depicting the same story of Lord Rama are launched and old ones are repeated on the small screen but no let up in the popularity is found and viewers make it a point not to miss any of the episodes.
What is special? The Ramayana is a story of human relations. No other book in the world over has ever defined the idealism in human relationship so precisely as Ramayana. Ram as an ideal son and an ideal king, Bharat and Laxman as ideal brothers, Sita as an ideal wife, Monkey king Sugreev as a friend in need, Hanuman as an ideal devotee (servant) and Ravana –an enemy in the true sense of the word – all these characters of Ramayana have ever remained a torch bearer for the society in the past and shall ever remain for the times to come as far as the human relations are concerned.
If Ram as an ideal son sacrificed the princely comforts and the throne of Ayodhaya to keep the word of his father, Bharat waited for his elder brother Ram to complete his exile to handover the kingdom and never enjoyed the palatial comforts during those 14 years. Newly wed Sita set an example as an ideal wife for the generations to come by accompanying Ram to his exile. Laxman sacrificed his married life andother princely comforts and too accompanied his elder brother to the jungle.Hanuman’s character shall ever remain exemplary for master- servant relationship. Sugreev proved the proverb true to its meaning that “a friend in need is a friend in deed”.
The idealism and values of human relations still find relevance in today’s social set up as these have become most wanting in today’s society. Nuclei families are replacing the age old joint family system. Material values are reigning supreme over the human values. We know a person by his status and material holdings. Human values have deteriorated to an extent of a son killing his father for property, wife eliminating her husband to facilitate an extra marital affair, brothermurdering brother to grab his share of property and daughter in connivance with her husband eliminating her parents and brother to become the only legal heir of the leftover estate. Defiance in the son-father relationship is pervasive. The former reasoning it to generation gap tells the later to mind his businessby saying "it is my life”.
Individualism in behavior and denial and disrespect to the human values has led to extreme intolerance in individuals. Set aside helping some one on the road, a car driver is thrashed to death just for asking side from a driver ahead of him.
Individuals have become so selfcentered that there seems to be no interaction with even next door neighbor. Living a shell like life, people are so disinterested even in street, mohalla, locality that the integrated social fabric in a country like India comprising numerous communities, religions seems to have become a distant affair. Lack of brotherhood is indirectly helping the vested interests to have their way individing the society in the name of sects, religions and regions.
Disintegration in the societyis so widespread that one just passes by leaving the accident victim to die on the roadside. Gap between parents and children is so wide that a daughter and domestic servant are hammered to death in the adjoining room in the house and parents come to know only in the morning. And the dual murder becomes a mystery to solve for the intelligence agencies of the country. Elders in the families are considered as liability and left to help themselves. Number of old age homes is on the rise. The younger lot has no time to care and maintain old parents.
Contrary to the concept of RamRajya exhibited in Ramayana, the rulers are conniving with criminals to loot public. Corruption is on the rampage. Leave others aside, even the decisions of judiciary can be thought to be influenced by money power. Elected representative are on sale to share power at any cost. Politicians don’t even spare the sensitive religious issues from capitalizing for vote bank.
Terrorism is another face of inhumanity. Killing innocents, attacking worship and crowded places has become the modus operandi by the terrorists’ groups to inflict maximum causalities for settling scores among enemy countries.
We watch Ram Leela and epic serials very keenly. A few intellectuals may even challenge a scene or event enacted for its veracity but how many of us try to imply the moral of the epic in our lives and propagate in the society.
Family is a smallest unit of social fabric. Individualism in the family disintegrates the society. Human relations, if valued and respected properly, can prove to be vital in building a well webbed society free of knots of ego, selfishness and false pride. Wejust need to go a little above individualism. An individual is known by his different characters in the society viz. a son, a father, a brother, a husband,a friend, a neighbor and so on. Let us be true to each of the roles assigned to us by the God.

Hence we all can contribute in this, by way of sending SMS & E - Mails to all our friends and create the awareness on the following points which are of NATIONAL IMPORTANCE AND HAS BECOME NEED OF HOURto pressurize the Central govt to take URGENT STEPS.
05AUG2009
On the auspicious occasion of RAKSHA BANDHAN, let us celebrate Vishwa Bandhutwa DiwasWestern culture has given us various days like Valentine’s Day , Friendship Day, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day etc; Let us all celebrate World Brother Sister day. When god sent us to the earth there are only two relations which are fixed and permanent - they are Mother and Brother / Sister. Rest are relations created after wards. Hence Sangh wants to appeal to citizens to celebrate this festival to show “Naitikata ka parichay aur sanskar ki punar rachana”.
We can go to Defence establishment, Police organisation on this day and tie a rakhi to them to symbolise their dedication to protect us.The Policemen and the Soldiers will be morally boosted by this.
09 AUG to 16 AUG ,2009 In all these days Sangh has called for VYAPAK JANJAGARAN ANDOLAN by furling our National flag in villages, towns, cities, mohallahs with the slogan
TIRANGA LEHARAYENGE BHARAT BACHAYENGE ; RASHTRA RAKSHA KA BHAV LAYENGE तिरंगा लहरायेंगे भारत बचायेंगे ; राष्ट्र रक्षा का भावः लायेंगे !
Further the points which are to be covered while speaking or sending SMS & E-mail are as follows
1) Terrorism policy
Sangh demands, there should be Rashtra Niti and not Rajniti on Terrorism. How much you facilitate Kasab and Afzal and trouble to Sadhvi Pragya which has been reported should not happen. There should be one Niti and that is Rashtra Niti on this. We must learn from those countries where such attack take place how they are dealing with culprits with iron hand. Same way in Bharat also suspected and culprits should should be punished. It may be Malegoan, Godhra, Bombay blasts etc in order to please one community there should not be Rajniti on this.
There should be one committee of enquiry consisting of all walks of society and should be given iron hand with out any political, social & religious pressure
2) Vikasit Seema Kushaal Bharat * Our borders are to be fenced and there should be guarding on zeroline and not a single inch of our Matrubhoomi should be compromised.
3) Seema Vikas
The biggest threat now is Himalayan terrain ,the activities going on there is alarming and it is the urgent need of the govt to protect and safeguard those states where Himalayan boundaries are coming. 4) NCC a must for 11th and12th class
The NCC training for above classes should be made compulsory with a new syllabus in order to impart the Rashtriyata Bhav and Rashtra Chetana in these youths as it has become a need of hour.

Source: Dainik Jagran |

SANGH PARIVAR--------- Phenomenal growth in Seva Karya all over Bharat
Sangh Parivar - Vasudhaiva Kutumbhkam |
Phenomenal growth in Seva Karya all over Bharat
Posted: 25 Jul 2009 10:02 AM PDT
Along with Rashtriya Seva Bharati, the social service projects and institutions inspired by the organizations Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Rashtra Sevika Samiti, Vidya Bharati, Deen dayal Shodh Sansthan, and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad are also counted in this report. To collect, collate and present the ever-growing vast data of all these social service projects is a tough task and Seva Vardhini has done it in quite an appreciable way. Along with statistical data, the report presents salient features of some path breaking experiments going on in the various parts of the nation.
Seva Disha 2009, which was published on the occasion of All Bharat 'Prant Pracharak Baithak' [annual meeting of state organizers] of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, highlights some remarkable features of the growth of Social service projects. The service activities all over the nation including the remote parts of Bharat have grown by more than 1 lakh as compared to 2004. But it is not just statistical growth. The dimensions of the various projects touch almost every weaker section of the society. The 'Arogya Rakshak' [village health volunteer] scheme being run in remote villages of various states, the 'Bal Gokulam' of Kerala, the 'Char Sutri Dhan' scheme of Maharashtra, the self help groups of Tamilnadu, projects for 'street children' in Delhi and other metros, the 'education for child labour' project in Andhra, are but sample examples of the all encompassing initiative of Swayamsevaks working in social service field.
The complete report 'Seva Disha 2009' shall be published on http://rssonnet.org in near future.
A review of the ' Sangh Shiksha Varg' conducted in the last 2 months at 60 places all over Bharat was also taken at this meeting which was held in Merath on 12,13 and 14 July.. This year, 10479 Swayamsevaks from 6982 places participated as trainees in the 'Pratham Varsha' [first year] Sangh Shiksha Varg, which is a part of a three year course. 2581 Swayamsevaks participated in the 'Dwitiya Varsha' [second year training], while 973 Swayamsevaks completed the 'Trutiya Varsha' [third year] training. Every year, the Swayamsevaks who have completed the initial training of the Sangh called 'Prathamik Shiksha Varg', are eligible to participate in these 20 days residential course

HINDHUTHWA
Active Hindu communities are to be found in all parts of the world. In particular, countries of the former Soviet Union and Poland have thriving Hindu communities due to the missionary work of the Hare Krishnas. Most of the Hindu movements, with the exception of the Hare Krishna movement, reflect a more Smarta-like ideology.
There are groups in India that are actively engaged in getting women and those from socially disadvantaged jātis to become priests of Vedic ritual.
One of the foremost movements in breaking the caste system and educating the downtrodden was the Lingayat movement spearheaded by Basavanna in the 12th century in Anubhava Mantapa in Kalyani of Karnataka. The less accessible Vedas were rejected and parallel Vachanas were compiled.
The new movements look up to Swami Vivekananda; Rabindranath Tagore;Ramana Maharshi; Shri Aurobindo (for his Integral Yoga); A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (founder of the modern Hare Krishna movement); Swami Sivananda, Swami Rama Tirtha; Narayana Guru, Paramhansa Yogananda; Shrii Shrii Anandamurti and for inspiration. More recently, the work of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Sathya Sai Baba, Shirdi Sai Baba, Swami Muktananda, Swami Chinmayananda, Maharishi Dayananda Saraswati, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Mata Amritanandamayi has inspired millions to create new centers of spiritual development. In the intellectual field, the writings of Ananda Coomaraswamy, Ram Swarup, Stephen Knapp, Sita Ram Goel, Subhash Kak and David Frawley have been influential.
In social work, Mahatma Gandhi, Vinoba Bhave, Baba Amte and Shrii Shrii Anandamurti have been most important. Sunderlal Bahuguna created the chipko movement for the preservation of forestlands according to the Hindu ecological ideas.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS was founded Keshav Baliram Hegdewar in 1925. The goal was to unite Hindus, make them rise over their caste differences and work to achieve a Hindu Rashtra; the ideology of the Sangh, closely associated with political Hinduism, came to be known as Hindutva.
In Indonesia several movements favour a return to Hinduism in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. Balinese Hinduism, known as Agama Hindu Dharma, has witnessed great resurgence in recent years.
Shrii Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar (founder of Ananda Marga) initiated a new renaissance in the Indian world of samgeet.

Organization
The RSS has been described by The Economist as the largest non-communist organisation in the world. It has an estimated 1.3 million members. BBC News, Three 'militants' killed in India. Retrieved 01-June-2006.The Sangh organises itself hierarchically, with a single individual, the sarsanghachalak (English: supreme organisational director), directing it. The position is decided by appointment, with each sarsanghachalak appointing his successor. The current sarsanghachalak of RSS is K.S. Sudarshan.
Most of the organisational work of the Sangh is done through the coordination of shakhas, or branches. These shakhas are run every morning (prabhat shakha), evening (sayam shakha) or night (atisayam shakha) for 1 hour in public places and are open to people of any creed. Currently about 50,000 shakhas are run throughout India. Apart from 42,000 daily gatherings, there are about 5,000 weekly and 2,000 monthly gatherings conducted throughout the length and breadth of the country.
These shakhas are the core building blocks of RSS structure. During a Shakha, the activities consist of yoga, games (including sometimes training in Silambam), discussions on broad range of social topics, prayer to Bharat Mata and an educational session (bouddhik) given by a notable figure selected by the shakha coordinator. Usually the educational session relates to the history of India, Indian philosophy and culture, or ethics. RSS leaders wear the common uniform of a black cap, white shirt and brown khaki shorts.
SANGHA PARIVAR
The Sangh Parivar (Hindi: संघ परिवार, translation: Family of Associations) refers to the family of organisations that have been started by the volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or are inspired by its ideals. The Sangh Parivar represents the Hindu nationalist movement[1]. It includes the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and several dozen smaller organisations, whose members' expressed opinions have been diverse over a range of topics.[2]
The different organizations within the Sangh Parivar run independently and peruse different policies and activities, but the stated mission of these activities has been "attaining the 'Saravangeena Unnati' (all-round development)" of India [3]. Putting it in the words of Shri M S Golwalkar “in order to be able to contribute our unique knowledge to mankind, in order to be able to live and strive for the unity and welfare of the world, we stand before the world as a self-confident, resurgent and mighty nation.” [4]

RECEPTION
Reception
Field Marshal Cariappa in his speech to RSS volunteers said "RSS is my heart's work. My dear young men, don't be disturbed by uncharitable comments of interested persons. Look ahead! Go ahead! The country is standing in need of your services" [74]
Noted Gandhian leader and the leader of Sarvoday movement, Jayaprakash Narayan, who earlier was a vocal opponent of RSS had the following to say about it in 1977 "RSS is a revolutionary organization. No other organization in the country comes anywhere near it. It alone has the capacity to transform society, end casteism and wipe the tears from the eyes of the poor." He further added "I have great expectations from this revolutionary organization which has taken up the challenge of creating a new India" [75]
DISCRIMINATION
– Kushwant Singh
[edit] Discrimination against RSS volunteers
Many cases have been reported in post-independence India where RSS volunteers have been discriminated against by the government due to their allegiance to the RSS and its ideology.[66] In a court case of a teacher who was dismissed from service due to his past links with the RSS, the Supreme Court labeled the government's action as "McCarthyism" and a "violation of fundamental rights".[67][68][69][70][71][72]
A municipal school teacher, Ramshanker Raghuvanshi, was dismissed by the Congress government of Madhya Pradesh in 1974, which stated that he had taken "part in the RSS" activities and hence was "not a fit person to be entertained in Government service". The Supreme Court dismissed the arguments of the government and said that the government had not adhered to the provisions of the Indian Constitution. The Supreme Court bench consisting of Justice Syed Murtuza Fazalali and Justice O. Chinnappa Reddy observed that "India is not a police state" and pleaded that the "promise of fundamental rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution not become a forgotten chapter of history". Delivering the landmark judgment, the Court observed that "seeking a police report on person's political faith", in the first place, "amounted to the violation of fundamental rights". The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the municipal teacher and ordered his reinstatement.[67][68][69][70][71][72]
Similar observations were made by the High courts of different provinces of India in different cases of political persecution of RSS volunteers.[66] One case involved Ranganathacharya Agnihotri, who was selected for the post of Munsiff but was not absorbed into service as he had been a volunteer of the RSS in his past. When Agnihotri approached the High Court of Mysore, he was reinstated. The Court observed:
"Prima facie the RSS is a non-political cultural organization without any hatred or ill will towards non-Hindus and that many eminent and respected persons in the country have not hesitated to preside over the functions or appreciate the work of its volunteers. In a country like ours which has accepted the democratic way of life (as ensured by the Constitution), it would not be within reason to accept the proposition that mere membership of such peaceful or non-violent association and participation in activities thereof, will render a person (in whose character and antecedents there are no other defects) unsuitable to be appointed to the post of a Munsiff."
– High Court of Mysore, The State of Karnataka Vs Ranganathacharya Agnihotri, writ No. 588/1966
The RSS also has been banned in India thrice, during periods in which the government of the time claimed that they were a threat to the state: in 1948 after Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, during the Emergency (1975-77), and after the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition. The bans were subsequently lifted, in 1949 after the RSS was absolved of charges in the Gandhi murder case, in 1977 as a result of the Emergency being revoked, and in 1993 when no evidence of any unlawful activities was found against it by the tribunal constituted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. [73]
HELPING HANDS TO SIKH BROTHERS
Protection of Sikhs during anti-Sikh riots 1984
Khushwant Singh, credits members of the RSS with helping and protecting Sikhs who were being targeted by members of the Congress(I) political party during the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots.[65] Singh who otherwise has been critical of the RSS and believes that it is a " communal organization and dangerous to the country's secular fabric" has said:
"RSS has played a honorable role in maintaining Hindu-Sikh unity before and after the murder of Indira Gandhi in Delhi and in other places"
"It was the Congress(I) leaders who instigated mobs in 1984 and got more than 3000 people killed. I must give due credit to RSS and the BJP for showing courage and protecting helpless Sikhs during those difficult days"[65]– Kushwant Singh
